We, DAISO, have developed pharmaceutical intermediates through our own C3 and C4 chirals based on our unique Bio-technology in the fields of fine chemicals. Firstly, we established the asymmetric assimilating technology with microorganisms in generating chiral chloropropanol and chloropropanediol. Recently, the stereoselective bio-conversion into chiral alcohols and carboxyric acids with the cell of microorganisms and their enzymes have also been established and applicated.
Since 2000, our R&D strategies have been being expanded in the fields of not only chiral chemistry, but also sugar chemistry based on our unique fermentation and bio-conversion technologies with microorganisms and their enzymes. In particular, we are now focusing on the functional and healthy foods, becoming more interesting and more familiar. The sales in 2003, Japan for the functional foods are estimated to be approximately 11 billion dollars, especially the sales of mushrooms healthy food like agarics, which was famous for containing a beta-glucan compound is over 640 million dollars.
